Dentist and Chester County Employee Claim Victory as New Martial Arts World Champions
[West Chester, PA] – Not one, but two, remarkable martial artists, have achieved a momentous victory by claiming the prestigious title of ATA Martial Arts World Champion. The highly skilled athletes showcased unparalleled dedication, perseverance, and skill throughout the competition, held in Phoenix, Arizona, the week of July 10, 2023.
2023 World Championships, one of the most prominent events in the martial arts community, brought together elite fighters from all corners of the globe to compete for the coveted world champion title. The competition spanned several intense days of high-stakes matches, challenging participants to demonstrate their mastery of various martial arts events, including forms, sparring, weapons, and musical forms.
The first world title won was by Dr. Stephanie McGann, second degree black belt. It was not only her first title, but the first individual World Champion title brought home to West Chester. Her title was in the category of X-Treme Weapons, which consists of a choreographed two-minute weapons routine set to music. Her weapon of choice, the Jee Pahng Ee, or cane. A dentist by day, Dr. McGann has been training in martial arts since 2015, when she started with her daughter. Her husband and son have also recently joined us on the mat.
Fantastically, the second ever title would be earned the next day. Master Kammas Kersch, 6th degree black belt, won her first ever World Champion title in the Combat Weapons Sparring event. There were thrilling matches in the female masters division and she even faced off against previous years’ World Champions to seal the deal. Master Kersch is a STEM Service Coordinator for Chester County by day and has been involved in martial arts for over 23 years.
As a testament to their unwavering commitment to their craft, Dr. McGann and Master Kersch blazed through the tournament with exceptional finesse, outperforming their opponents. Their precise technique, lightning-fast reflexes, and strategic acumen set them apart as a force to be reckoned with.
“It is an incredible honor to be named a World Champion,” Master Kammas Kersch said. “This victory is the culmination of years of rigorous training, sacrifice, and the unwavering support of my instructors, teammates, and family. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to compete alongside such talented martial artists from around the world.”
Their victory not only signifies their personal achievement but also serves as an inspiration to aspiring martial artists worldwide. The impact of their victory will undoubtedly resonate throughout ATA West Chester and the region, inspiring individuals of all ages to pursue their passions, dream big, and never relent in the face of challenges.
