ATA to host World Championships, their largest Martial Arts Tournament to thrill spectators and competitors alike
Phoenix, Arizona – The global martial arts community is gearing up for a display of skill, strength, and determination as the organization’s largest martial arts tournament, World Championships, is set to take place from July 10th to July 16th. This highly anticipated event will bring together elite competitors from all corners of the globe, promising an unforgettable experience for both participants and spectators alike.
Organized by the American Taekwondo Association, 2023 World Championships aims to celebrate martial arts, foster camaraderie among practitioners, and showcase the sport in over 10 events of competition, including forms, sparring, weapons, musical forms, and team sparring. This grand tournament will serve as a platform for martial artists to demonstrate their expertise, test their abilities, and compete for ultimate glory and will feature over 2,000 competitors over the course of a week.
In addition to the exhilarating competition, World Championships will feature a week full of activities for attendees to enjoy. Spectators will have the opportunity to witness captivating demonstrations by renowned martial arts masters, experience interactive workshops, train with top Grand Masters and Chief Masters, international rank testing, and view the Master’s Induction Ceremony.
This event also signifies that end of the 2022-23 season, crowning World Champions who emerge victorious. It will also kick off the 2023-24 season with point values being up to 3 times a normal tournament.

Samuel Jouan, Vincent Jouan, Benjamin Jouan, Korey Wunsch, Stephanie McGann, Avary Wagner, Devon Wagner, Shane Sweeney, Saket Banda, Aditi Banda, Ethan Fernandez, Aiden Miranda, Kerrie Garrison, Andrew Morello, Aubry Dowd, Master Kammas Kersch, and Senior Master Marc Jouan.
Several students will be midterm testing, taking a step closer to their next degree of black belt including Kerrie Garrison, Stephanie McGann, Shane Sweeney, and Senior Master Jouan.
Testing for new ranks include Wesley Hicks testing for 4th Degree Black Belt and John Sklenar, Dalton Shanahan, and Sarah Jefferson testing for the rank of 5th Degree Black Belt.
Finally, we are elated to have 7th Degree Black Belt, Master Maria Jouan undergo the Senior Mastership process to be inducted as a Senior Master Instructor in Songahm Taekwondo, a prestigious title and monumental accomplishment.
